If you want to help for kids from IWK.
Here is letter from Administrative Assistant Volunteer Resources IWK Health Centre
“…We give away finger puppets and small knitted comfort dolls by the thousand to our patients. The staff in the Lab give a finger puppet to every child who has blood drawn, to comfort them after the needle poke. They use about a thousand puppets every month. We also give them out in Emergency, Same Day Surgery, many of our Outpatient clinics, and keep baskets of them at the Information Desks to give to children who come in for doctors' appointments. We also have IWK doctors travelling to developing countries to see children there - they often take bags of finger puppets with them for those children, as they are easy to pack, take up little space and don't break. The knitted comfort dolls are kept in the Lab and other departments to give to children who need a bit of extra cheering up.”
From the left you can find patterns for some puppets and comfort toys.
If you wish you can drop off any donations at the IWK.
The address is 5850 / 5980 University Avenue,
On the corner of Robie Street and University Avenue in Halifax.
If you want to send something in, the mailing address is:
IWK Health Centre 5850/5980 University Avenue
P.O. Box 9700
Halifax, Nova Scotia B3K 6R8
But you should make sure it is addressed to the Volunteer Resources Department - a place this big gets a lot of mail. It would be better to have things dropped off - then you don't have to pay for postage as well.
Any donations can be dropped off in the Volunteer Resources Department - its open 8 to 4, Monday to Friday, or left at one of the Information Desks.
The Security Desk in the women's site lobby is staffed 24 - 7. If donations are dropped off there, you should include your name and contact information so that they can properly acknowledge any donations. Thank you in advance. People like you do so much to make a hospital stay less frightening and more pleasant for the children.
